Ghost and ineligible beneficiaries have marred the newly introduced Parish Development Model lists something which is hampering the program implementation in Hoima City.
This was revealed Thursday during the belated Women’s Day celebrations held in Buhanika Cell, Nyakambugu Ward in Hoima City East Division.
Swalleh Ashraf Kajuma, the city production officer and the program focal person says out of 794 beneficiaries who applied for the program, only 102 have been accepted and approved in the system highlighting a big number as ineligible persons for the program.
Kajuma reveals that some of those rejected by the system include civil servants, teachers, the rich who had earlier on been registered to benefit from the program.
He says they are now looking for new beneficiaries with the program launch in the city due in a week’s time.
Dema Gabriel, the Hoima City NRM Chairperson says during the verification of beneficiaries at ward level, it was discovered that some politicians and rich people were included as beneficiraries adding that the program is meant for the 39% poor people to support their livelihoods.
Badru Mugabi, the Hoima Resident City Commissioner who was the chief guest revealed that the city has already received UGX770,571,072 for 16 parishes. He adds that President Museveni has urged Ugandans to use the available poverty eradication programs with mindset change and a well calculated plan.
Asinansi Nyakato, the Hoima City Woman MP decried the limited funds for the program. She urged technical experts to help the beneficiaries when they come to their offices because the funds are tax payer’s money and cautioned politicians to back off the program.
