Several Injured in Link Bus Accident

Police in Kikuube district is investigating circumstance under Link Bus operating on Hoima-Fort Road got involved in an accident and left some passengers injured.

The accident occurred as the driver of the Link bus registration number UBJ 725Z which was carrying over 40 passengers from Fort Portal heading to Hoima veered off the road and fell into a trench.

The accident occurred at Mairirwe village in Buhima town council, Kikuube district on Wednesday afternoon after the driver of the bus lost control as he attempted to dodge a truck registration number UBG 467V Tata which was transporting sugarcane heading to Kiziranfumbi sub-county in Kikuube district.

Eyewitness say the driver of the bus who was on high-speed was shocked by the truck which was caving the conner entering into the road; in the process the bus driver braked suddenly and failed to control the speeding buss.

Julius Hakiiza, the Albertine regional police spokesperson says the accident was serious and not fatal. He notes that a number of unconfirmed passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to different health facilities for medication.

He blamed the accident on reckless driving by both drivers adding that officers from Kikuube traffic police visited the scene, and impounded the truck and bus. These are currently kept at Kikuube police station as police continues with the investigations.

Yahaya Kugonza, the manager of Link bus Bunyoro blames the accident on the driver of the sugarcane truck who he said that just entered into the road without minding about other road users.

He noted that there is sharp conner at the scene of the accident adding that if the bus driver was over speeding, no passenger would have survived.
