Police in Masindi have arrested three people who are suspected of stealing a car.
The suspects reportedly stole a vehicle registration number UAX 952V, from the Old Taxi Park in Kampala on Sunday evening. The car was thereafter sighted along the Kampala-Masindi Road and later along the Masindi-Hoima Road.
Police mounted several roadblocks along the Masindi-Hoima Road and intercepted the car with three occupants at around 12:20 am. Those arrested were identified as Ronald Mutebi, Francis Wamani, and Vincent Tumwine, all residents of Kampala, who are now detained at Masindi Central Police Station.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson says they are working with their counterparts in Kampala to have the suspects transferred to Kampala where they allegedly committed the crime. The recovered vehicle is also parked at Masindi Central Police Station.
Hakiza says one of the suspects identified as Ronald Mutebi was recently released from the Kitalya Prison in Wakiso where he spent five years on charges of car theft.
