Residents using Mandela-Sir Tito road in Kiryatete West, Hoima East City division, will have to wait a little longer before the road works are completed as Hoima city authorities await funds from the central government.
Business operators along the road have several times raised concerns over the slow road works under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development Programme (USMID), something which has hindered their operations and causing losses especially during dry seasons.
Speaking to Spice FM exclusively, Brian Kaboyo the Hoima city Mayor explains they are currently being demanded by the contractor and are now waiting for parliament of Uganda to pass a supplementary budget to ensure funds are released to the city coffers adding that the contractor is ahead of time in terms of works so far done.
He reveals that the major works along the roads are done especially drainage construction adding the contractor will complete all road works by July 2023.
He urges residents using the Mandela-Sir Tito road to remain patient adding that the road works will be completed on time and the contractor has since been tasked to double the efforts in working on the roads.
In November 2022, the government contracted China Railway 18 Bureau Group Company Limited (CR18G) to tarmac a four-kilometer road network in Hoima city at 30 billion shillings.
These roads are the 0.4km Perse-Commercial Street, 0.46km Government Road Extension, 1.00km Circular, 0.26KM Bikunya,0.60Km Tayali-Crown-Eka Road, 0.20Km Tank Hill, and 1.30km Mandela-Sir Tito.
The contractor has since started laying stone base on a number of roads however Mandela- Sir Tito road has remained in a sorry state with the deadline of completion of road works nearing.
