Two People in Police Custody over Murder of a 40-Year-Old Man

Two people are being held at Kikuube police station in connection with the murder of a man in his 40s.

The suspects are identified as Lillian Tukyinze and Damaseni Ntabanganyimana all residents of in Sayuni- Nyairongo village in Kabwoya sub-county, Kikuube district.

The suspects are alleged to have murdered Elias Rukinzakare a resident of the same area.

According to the Nyairongo village chairperson Desire Nkuruzinza, the suspects attacked the deceased on Wednesday last week and beat him to death.

He says the deceased and the suspects earlier in the day engaged in a quarrel at one of the bars in the village with the suspects, however, the deceased left for his home but the angry suspects followed and attacked him in an isolated area.

He adds that the suspects beat the deceased to death and dumped his body alongside the road. The body was discovered by locals the next day.

Nkuruzinza has condemned the increased criminality in the area attributing it to drug abuse and alcoholism.

He notes that two weeks ago, a 30-year-old lady from Ibanda was attacked and killed by unknown people and no suspect has been arrested.

Speaking on phone on Monday, Julius Hakiiza the Albertine region police spokesperson confirmed that the suspects had been picked to help police to investigate the murder of the deceased.

He says the suspects are being held at Kikuube police station waiting to be arraigned before the courts of law to answer charges of murder.
