Police in the Albertine region is hunting for an armed robber who attacked a mobile money and bank agent in Hoima city in an attempt to rob millions of money. Police also recovered the gun which the robber abandoned.
An armed robber on Saturday at around 8pm attacked one Yunis a mobile money handler and agent of Centenary, Equity and Stanbic Bank operating behind the former Crane Bank Ltd Building in Park cell in Hoima East Division in Hoima city.
It is alleged that the thugs entered into the bank agent disguising as customers who wanted to withdraw money with something wrapped in bag which made the operator of the shop only identified as Yunis to get suspicious.
According to police sources that preferred anonymity, as result of suspicion, Yunis sounded sound an alarm that forced the thugs to take off.
He noted that the alarm attracted the people who responded by pursuing the suspected thug and when the thug observed that people were following him, he dropped bag and escaped.
When contacted for a comment on Sunday, Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson confirmed the incident adding that the locals called police that rushed to scene and recovered an AK-47 gun with a magazine of 30 rounds of ammunition in the bag.
He has hailed the residents for being vigilant adding that the vigilance of the people helped police to recover the gun that would be used to terrorize the region adding that a team of flying squad operatives have launched a hunt of the suspected robber.
