Over 100 families of Kitonya/Kyamiransiimbi LCI, Kitonya parish in Buhanika subcounty in Hoima district are leaving in fear of a looming eviction over a piece of land that is being disputed between the residents and one tycoon identified as Patrick Muhumuza a resident of Hoima City.

The affected families include; Julius Muhumuza, Jostinah Kabwimukya, Denis Ahebwa, John Baguma, Richard Tumusiime, Simon Besisa, Sayuni Birungi, Everest Businge, Nickson Ayebale, Patrick Ndora, Francis Isingoma among others.

The residents allege that Muhumuza bought a piece of land close to 10 acres sold to him by Christopher Bagonza known as Coach a resident of Kyarwabuyamba in Hoima city

Gerald Kibirige, the Chairperson LCI is one of the affected residents reveals they learnt about the titling and surveying of their land when he approached his surveyor to carry out land surveying with an intention of obtaining a title. He was later informed that part of his land had already been titled and that of the rest of the families in the village.

Kibirige wonders how Muhumuza obtained authority on the land without the chairperson’s signature adding that the residents have stayed on the piece of land for a long period of time and had even constructed permanent houses.

Jackson Tinkasimiire the vice Chairperson also one of the affected residents revealed Muhumuza’s coming to the area is well known to the residents and the village authorities who witnessed his purchase of the piece of land are all still alive. He now wonders how he has now turned against the residents and wants to evict them.

The residents now want the RDC’s intervention into the matter. They want to know how Muhumuza obtained the entire piece of land and even secured a land title.

By the time of filling this story, we were unable to get a comment from Muhumuza since he couldn’t pick our repeated calls.
