Kikuube District Local Government has laid a Sh26 billion budget for the Financial Year 2023/ 2024 with concerns over the continued budget cuts.

The District Secretary for Finance and female councilor for Kiziranfumbi town council Zuliah Nyakahara presented the budget proposals for the revenue and expenditure estimates for the financial year 2023/2024

According to the budget proposals laid during the council meeting chaired by Speaker Chris Nkalu at Kikuube district headquarters on Thursday, the new budget has indicated a decline of Sh13bn from Sh39.6 billion for the financial year 2022/23.

Nyakahara says the funds will be raised from local revenue collection-Sh1.5 billion, Sh2.7 billion from central government transfers, Sh934 million other government transfers and donor funding Sh2.2 billion.

She notes that the health sector will take the lion’s share followed by administration, works and water departments. She says they need to acquire land titles for different health facilities.

After she presented the budget, the council received it awaiting its approval in the next council sitting.

Peter Banura, the Kikuube district chairman has expressed concern over the continued budget cuts saying they negatively impact on service delivery.
