Seven people including the director of Winners High school in Hoima City have been arrested over inciting violence and holding an illegal assembly.
The suspects include five students namely Nathan Kushabe (S1), Robert Ninsaba (S4), Yoweri Talemwa (S5), Geofrey Kankiriho (S4), Abel Nyasheija (S4), Godfrey Kamuhanda, games teacher and the director Geoffrey Mwine, all of Winners high school.
Their arrest follows a fracas that ensued at Hoima Booma grounds when players and the staff of Winners secondary school turned rowdy disputing the secondary school games organizers’ decision to disqualify them from the ongoing Hoima City Uganda Secondary School Sports Association (USSSA) football games for boys.
Winners high school was disqualified at the quarterfinal level on grounds that the school is not registered with the education and sports ministry.
Julius Allan Hakiiza, the Albertine police spokesperson says they have preferred charges of inciting violence after the student’s used sticks and stones to beat their fellow students from other schools.
Hakiiza adds that one of the students had obtained a jerrycan of petrol with an intention of burning the barracks for Hoima central police station.
