Hoima city council has Tuesday received draft budget estimates for financial year 2023/24 totaling to Sh29.3bn with the infrastructure development taking the lion’s share.

The budget estimates were laid before council by the deputy Mayor and leader of government business Sylvia Nalumaga Balyesiima in a council sitting that was held at Hoima Resort hotel in Hoima East division.

While laying the budget estimates, Nalumaga says the budget will be supported through discretionary central transfers, conditional grant transfers, other government transfers, local government revenues and external financing.

According to the budget estimates, the bulk of resources will go to integrated transport infrastructure and service program for road construction and maintenance, human capital development (health and education), administration and management, finance and planning, government and security program and agro-industrialization, tourism and development, natural resources, climate change mitigation among others.

The deputy mayor notes that the budget will focus on addressing the social economic challenges, impacting on the livelihoods of the city dwellers through monetization of the economy largely driven by the implementation of the parish development model.
