Congolese Refugee Arrested for Allegedly Defiling Own Daughter

Kikuube police are holding a Congolese refugee from Kyangwali refugee settlement for alleged aggravated defilement. The suspect is Bayogisa Kabanza ,40, a resident of Karokole village comprising Block 4 in Kyangwali refugee settlement area.

He was arrested on Sunday evening for allegedly defiling his 15-year-old daughter on Saturday. It is alleged that at around 9 pm on Sunday night as Kabanza grabbed his 15-year-old daughter in the absence of his wife and defiled her. He threatened to kill her should she reveal the matter to her mother or any resident.

However, when the mother returned, the daughter revealed what her father had done to her. The mother immediately rushed to Kyangwali police station and lodged a complaint. Police swung into action, arrested the suspect, and whisked him to Kikuube central police station where he is in custody on charges of aggravated defilement.

The mother told the police that her daughter revealed to her that this was not the first time her father was sexually abusing her with threats of killing her should she reveal his actions to anyone.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region police spokesperson, says that investigations into the matter have commenced. He says a medical examination conducted on the minor indicated that she had been repeatedly sexually abused.

Topheus Chali, the Kyangwali refugee settlement commandant could not be reached for a comment on the matter as our repeated phone calls to her known mobile telephone number went unanswered.
