Police in Kikuube district has arrested six people in the connection to the disappearance of a 40-year-old man.
David Muhwezi a resident of Kyarushesha village in Kyangali sub-county went missing on Monday this week.
The suspects whose identities have not been disclosed for fear of jeopardizing police investigation were arrested following a security meeting which was held Madwiga village in Butoole parish, Kyangwali sub-county in Kikuube district on Wednesday.
The meeting which attracted the Albertine regional Police Commander Vincent Mwesigye, Kikuube acting district police commander Edina Nyiraneza and chaired by Kikuube resident district commissioner Amlan Tumusiime was convened to intervene into a land conflict in the area.
The conflict started after hundreds of residents started fighting for land which government recently acquired after the compensation of landlords who include Minister for Public service Muruli Mukasa and Late John Bahemuka among others using land fund.
The missing person has been also among the people who have been fighting for the land.
During the meeting, Muhwezi’s wife Evase Kyarisima said that her husband went missing on Monday as he was coming from the contested land, adding that since then his phones have been off.
She noted that they reported a case of missing person at Kyangwali police station.
It is from this information that RPC Mwesigye ordered for the arrest of the people who have been in conflict with the missing resident over the land.
DPC Nyiraneza says the suspects who are currently detained at Kikuube CPS will help police with investigations.
