Shock and grief engulfed resident of Waiga Village in Bugana Parish, Buliisa Sub County in Buliisa District after stray elephants attacked and killed a 75-year-old man. The animals also injured another person.

The deceased is identified as Mogo Ungyera a resident of the same village, while the injured is Abraham Ogen Mungu.

Charles Urombi, the Waiga LCI chairperson says Abraham Ogen Mungu, one of the survivors told them, that they were attacked by stray elephants on Sunday evening as they were watering their Tobacco Nursery bed.

Urombi explains that the elephants grabbed the old man as he tried to run for his dear life killing him instantly.

He adds that when the Ogen returned back sounding an alarm to rescue the old man, the animals turned against him and injured him severally.

Urombi says Ogen was rescued by the residents who responded to the alarms and was rushed to Buliisa general hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

The death of the old man has come at a time when residents bordering Murchison Falls National Park and Bugungu Wildlife Conservation are demanding government to find a remedy to the continued invasion of elephants on people’s homes and gardens.
