Seven suspects are behind bars in Kagadi district in connection to the murder of Jimmy Mugisa, a police constable formally with Nagalama police station.

It is alleged that the seven whose particulars have been concealed for fear of jeopardizing police investigations together with others still at large while in Kagadi on February 9, 2023, murdered the deceased suspecting him to be a thief.

Mugisa, who was a resident of Igulika cell in Karuswiga ward in Muhorro town council in Kagadi, obtained pass leave on December 6, 2022, and went to stay with his family. On February 9, he went to Kapyatta motors limited which offers motorcycles on a loan, to service his motorcycle registration number UFT 896K Bajaj he acquired from them.

The office had impounded the motorcycle because Mugisa had defaulted on his loan. However, upon arrival at Kapyatta motors limited offices in Kagadi town council, he picked a quarrel with a cashier only identified as Sharon for unknown reasons. It is alleged that Sharon reportedly sounded an alarm, which attracted residents who mistook the constable for a thief and pounced on him beating him to death.

Police could not do much since the constable had already breathed his last by the time they arrived. Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson told Uganda Radio Network that following the mob action, police decided to hunt the mob members leading to the arrest of the seven suspects.

He says that the suspects will appear before the court for murder once police inquiries are complete.
