Banyoro under the umbrella Mubende Bunyoro Committee (MBC) from the lost counties of Bugangaizi and Buyaga are not happy with the government for compensating absentee landlords.
During the celebrations to mark the 37th National Liberation Day at Kakyeka play ground in Kakumiro district last week, President Museveni handed over 2700 land titles to different Bibanja holders to address land issues in the two lost counties.
The land titles were processed by the Ministry lands after government compensated the absent landlords under the Land Fund policy.
Bugangaizi and Buyaga counties are kingdom administration units located in Kagadi, Kakumiro and Kibaale districts.
Addressing the press in Hoima City, MBC senior mobilizer Livingstone Bakumira says that as Banyoro, they were not happy with the way government is handling land matters especially compensation of the absentee lanlords.
He noted that their forefathers lost their lives fighting for the rights of Banyoro which included land but unfortunately, they retuned the lost counties to Bunyoro and land remained in hands of the Baganda who are absent landlords.
He says that it was unfair for the government to compensate the people who confiscated their land with the help of the British colonialists.
He noted that they expected government compensate Banyoro for their land before processing the titles for the people currently occupying the land but to their surprise the compensation went to the grabbers.
