Parents and stakeholders in the Bunyoro sub region have blamed the government for not doing enough to regulate the continuous increment of school fees in various schools across the country.
According to the parents and stakeholders in the region, despite the various directives issued by the Education ministry and the president, the directives have remained on paper and are not being implemented.
They mostly blame the Inspector of schools; the District Education officers and the RDCs for not closely monitoring and implementing the directives being issued by the president and the Education ministry.
Esther Kabadeda, a parent in Hoima city blames the current situation on failure by the inspector of schools, and RDCs for not closely monitoring and implementing the directives.
Joseph Kyamanywa, a parent in Buhirigi village, Bombo sub county in Hoima district wants the DEOs and inspector of schools to effectively do their work by ensuring that the directives issued by the education ministry and the president are fully implemented.
Patrick Musinguzi, also a parent, says failure by the Educator authorities and the RDCs to implement the directives has greatly affected parents who have continued to struggle paying the high charges by school proprietors.
Peter Mayanja an Opinion leader blames the trend on corruption that has made the implementers not to sufficiently do their work and expected.
President Yoweri Museveni while presiding over the 37th NRA/NRA liberation anniversary in Kakumiro vowed to take tough action against school proprietors who have unnecessarily increased school fees both in private and public institutions of learning saying it is uncalled for.
He says his government will expeditiously reign over errant education institutions increasing school fees for their personal gains.
