In a bid to improve food production in Kakumiro district, the State Minister for Works and Transport Fred Byamukama has procured and donated over 500 hand hoes to local leaders in the district.
Leaders who include district, sub-county councilors, LCIII chairpersons, women, religious and youth leaders received the hoes at a function held at Kakora primary school in Nalweyo Town Council, Kakumiro district.
According to Minister Byamukama who is also the Bugangaizi West c Member of Parliament, the campaign of procuring hoes to the leaders was initiated with the aim of engaging leaders to mobilize local communities to embrace farming.
He notes that several leaders have abandoned their role of mobilizing their electorates to engage in agricultural production and this has left many suffering with food insecurity.
