As the celebrations of the 37th National Liberation Day get underway, the Hoima City Woman MP, Hon. Asinansi Nyakato Kamanda says whereas the people of Bunyoro recognize the achievements made in terms of infrastructure development, there is need to use the opportunity of hosting the celebrations to demand for better services and fulfilment of various pledges made by the government.
She cites the demand for a public University in Bunyoro region because uneducated population is an unliberated one. According to government plans, the University intends to promote work integrated learning and on the job training through transformative rural and urban development.
Nyakato also wants government to find a long-lasting solution to the land grabbing and illegal land evictions should be addressed and all Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) should be resettled.
Nyakato also wants Local Content to be championed and the local people not be denied jobs on unfair technicalities of lack of experience say; 5 to10yrs experience in oil and gas yet it is the first time for to deal with oil and gas industry. “Let our people be given chance to practice on job, they will earn the experience. Government should urge the oil and gas companies to support local communities through corporate social responsibility initiatives like establishment of health facilities, schools, establishment of clean water sources and others” she said.
She has also asked government to support the establishment of oil and gas Incubation fund to support small and medium scale entrepreneurs so that Ugandans can compete in the oil and gas sector.
