Employees of World Food Program (WFP) who have being traveling over 200km to reach their work station in Kyangwali refugee settlement in Kyangwali sub-county, Kikuube district have a reason to smile after the organization kicked of the construction a USD1.5M staff housing unit.

The ten-month project which is to be implemented by K.K Associates was commissioned by WFP Country director Abdirahman Meygag on Thursday at WFP offices in Kyangwali refugee settlement.

While launching the project, Meygag says the project was initiated in 2019 after realizing that their over 23 employees were facing several challenges while commuting the over 200km every day to their work station. The employees stay in Hoima and have to commute everyday to Kyangwali.

He notes that the project was supposed to have started two years ago but it was delayed by the COVID 19 pandemic.

Meygag adds that the project once completed, will improve re-enforcement of their services, reduce transport costs and vehicle repairs as well as other movement challenges.

He added that lack of accommodation has been compromising the performance of the staff.

WFP Engineer Emmanuel Kizito commended the Office of the Prime Minister for donating the land where the project is being established.

He noted that project will have 32 housing units, 50,000 litre capacity water reservoir, and recreation activity, insulation solar plant, water treatment plant and a CCTV system to ensure security of staff.

Kikuube district LCV Chairman Peter Banura   expressed excitement about the project saying it will contribute to the development of the area.
