Four Remanded for Vehicle Theft in Hoima

The Hoima grade one Magistrate on Monday afternoon remanded four people to Kiryateete government prison in Hoima city over car theft.

Three of the suspects on single file are Julius Byamukama 25 years, John Tidyebwa 19 years and Bernard Tumusiime.  These were charged with two counts of theft of a car and being in possession of car breaking equipment.

While appearing in court presided over by the grade one principal Magistrate Elijah Iradukunda, the court heard that between the month of December 2022 and January 2023, the suspects while in Hoima City were found with several car breaking implements which included scissor, hammer, pliers, and sharp metals.

Prosecution led by Julius Ochen told court the on January 3, 2023 the suspect while in Hoima town were intercepted by police and found them with suspected stolen motor vehicle registration number UBB533X.

The three suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges.

But, Ochen asked court to set the date for hearing the case because prosecution had completed investigations.

The principal Magistrate Iradukunda remanded the suspects to Kiryateete prisons until 18th of this month when the suspects will appear for hearing of the case.

The same court remanded 25-year-old Moses Tugume a resident of Kinubi in Hoima West Division, Hoima city over allegations of aggravated robbery and theft of a vehicle.

Court heard that on December 13, 2022 at Kyarushesha village in Butoole parish, Kyangwali sub-county in Kikuube district, the suspect stole a vehicle registration number UAW760F Premo valued at sh20 million which belong to John Tumushabe, a resident of the same area.

Prosecution also told court that on December 20, 2022, the suspect while in Kitole village in Buhimba sub-county, Kikuube district armed with a panga robbed another vehicle registration UAG322 Premo valued at Sh20million from Emmanuel Businge.

The presiding magistrate remanded Tugume to Kiryateete government prison till January 25, 2023 when court will hear the first case.
