Masindi Police are holding Yosea Kiiza, the headteacher of St. Kizito Primary School Murro on accusations of defiling a 15-year-old P.7 pupil at his school. He was picked up on Sunday evening by detectives from Masindi Central Police station.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson says detectives from Masindi central police station rushed to the school after the girl’s father opened a defilement case against the headteacher. According to Hakiza, the headteacher has been defiling the teenager for some time not until the minor revealed the matter to the school matron last week.
The matron informed the administration, which also notified the minor’s father. Hakiza explains that upon interrogation by police, the minor confessed that she has severally been defiled by her headteacher. Police subjected the girl to a medical examination, which confirmed she had been defiled.
According to Hakiza, the suspect who is currently locked up at Masindi central police station will appear in court on defilement charges once police investigations are complete. The victim’s father says that upon interrogations, his daughter revealed that the suspect forced her into sexual intercourse.
“My daughter told me that since June the headteacher has been forcing her into sexual intercourse. He would send my daughter into his room and then defile her from there,” he said. Adolf Kato, the Masindi District Education Officer-DEO described the incident as unfortunate, saying that he was briefed by the police.
“I was planning to visit the school when I received the report but fortunately enough, I’m told the suspect has been arrested,” said Kato. He has warned teachers and headteachers against engaging in such criminal acts against children placed under their care.
