Residents and leaders in Kabwoya sub-county in Kikuube district want Kaseeta Health Centre III elevated to health center IV.
The facility receives between 200 to 250 patients on average according to statistics obtained, but its facing challenges that include drug stock-outs. Some patients accessing health services from the facility come as far as the Democratic Republic of Congo-DRC.
Deo Asaba, a resident of Kaseeta Parish says the government should intervene and upgrade the facility or establish more health facilities to save residents from incurring costs while traveling long distances to reach a few existing health centers which are ever congested with patients.
Catherine Akello, another resident says some mothers continue to die in silence since there are no areas where they can access appropriate antenatal care and others go to traditional birth attendants despite a ban issued on their operations by the government.
Vincent Alpha Opio, the Kikuube LCV Vice Chairperson calls for attention to the elevation of lower health facilities especially those in grades 2 and 3 to enable them to get increased funding, drug allocations, staffing, and structures among others to offer quality health service delivery to the citizens.
Amiina Kabagenyi, the Assistant in charge at the facility says few health workers have been posted to the facility despite the overwhelming number of patients being accommodated at the facility.
She says the facility currently has eight staff including two midwives, two enrolled nurses, one clinical officer, one laboratory technician, a laboratory attendant plus an askari.
