Assailants Hack Elderly Man to death, Disappear with his Arm

Unknown assailants have hacked a man to death in Rwamata B village in Mpasana sub-county, Kakumiro district, and made off with his left arm. Police have identified the deceased as 60-year-old Didas Tumwine.

According to available information, the assailants raided the deceased’s home around 11:30 pm on Monday night and hacked him severally on the head, neck, and hands killing him instantly. The deceased was living alone in his house.

The assailants chopped off the deceased’s left arm and vanished with it. The deceased’s son, Nicholas Muhanguzi told Uganda Radio Network in an interview on Tuesday evening that, they heard his late father screaming for help and rushed to see what was happening only to find his lifeless body lying in a pool of blood in the compound.

He says that on closer examination, they realized that the deceased’s left arm was missing. He says that it is not clear how the thugs gained entrance into the deceased’s house. Donald Nkurunziza, one of the residents, says that they are leaving in fear following the brutal murder of their neighbour.

He wants police to expedite investigations and apprehend the culprits for justice to prevail. Carolyne Owimamana, another resident says it is not clear why the assailants targeted the deceased yet he was not in conflict with anybody in the area.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, says investigations into the brutal murder have commenced and calls upon the public to cooperate with police by availing vital information that could lead to the arrest and detention of the suspects.

He says police picked up the deceased’s body and conveyed it to Kakumiro Health center IV where it is lying pending a postmortem. This is not the first incident of this kind in Rwamata village.

On July 29, 2022, a 48-year-old man raided Rwamata village in Mpasana sub-county and hacked three people to death before he was also lynched by an angry mob.

The deceased persons were identified as Kereb Ndyamuhajyi 28, Devine Haijuka 1, and Joan Rwangireho 4 while the assailant was identified as Emmanuel Kiiza.
