The bodies of two fishermen who drowned on the weekend in the Lake Albert waters in Kikuube district have been retrieved.
The deceased fishermen have only been identified as Ajaruva 35 and Richard 24, both attached to Bugoma landing site in Buhuka parish Kyangwali Sub County in Kikuube district.
The duo died in the Lake Albert waters on Saturday evening after their fishing boat was reportedly hit by strong winds forcing it to capsize and killing them instantly.
Though the fishermen sounded an alarm, it was not possible for their colleagues who were also carrying out fishing activities on the lake to rescue them. Since then, their fellow fishermen launched a search for their bodies.
Reginal Ngamita, the Buhuka Parish LC2 Chairperson told Spice FM on Monday that the bodies of the deceased fishermen were retrieved on Sunday evening at around 5p.m.
He says the bodies that were retrieved by fellow fishermen have already been handed over to their relatives for burial.
