Patients in Buhanika Sub-county, Hoima district are avoiding seeking treatment from Butema Health Centre III after two workers at the facility succumbed to Covid-19.

Two workers from the Records Department succumbed to Covid-19 while three more health workers are still battling the virus under the homecare Based management.

Emmanuel Enyonga, the Health Assistant at the facility says patients are shying away in fear of contracting the disease from workers at the facility.

He says they currently have limited Personal Protective Gears in stock which puts the lives of the health workers at risk of contracting or spreading the virus.

By the time Spice FM visited the facility, the health workers were wearing one mask yet the ministry of health advises them to put on more than one for their safety.

Joan Namagala, the in-charge of the maternity ward at the facility says even the number of expecting mothers seeking for antenatal services has reduced hence increasing on child and maternal deaths.

According to her, out of 120 mothers who seek antenatal services at the facility in a month, only 60-70 deliver from it while majority deliver in the hands of Traditional Birth Attendants.
