With couples now staying together for longer hours due to a partial lockdown instituted recently by President Yoweri Museveni to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, cases of gender based violence might tend to increase.
At least 1,210 cases of GBV were recorded in Kikuube between October 2020 to May 2021. While 740 cases were recorded in the same period in Hoima district according to Child Rights Empowerment and Development Organization (CEDO).
Now, the Hoima City Woman MP Nyakato Asinasi says to avert the challenge, women need to respect their husbands during such trying moments when people are emotionally, economically and socially stressed by the effects of the pandemic.
She argues that despite challenges in marriage, couples need to find better approaches of solving them than engaging in violence.
Nyakato urges women to respect their men and also complement their little incomes, if they are to have successful marriages.
