The COVID-19 lockdown has affected the preparation of the Lady Doves, Uganda’s representatives to the Zonal Qualifiers for the CAF Champions league. Lady Doves are the champions of the 2021 FUFA Women Super League.
They emerged champions after defeating UCU Lady Cardinals 2-1 in the finals played at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru on May 05 2021. This automatically made Masindi based Lady Doves, Uganda’s representative to the CAF Champions league finals skated for November this year in Morocco.
However, Lady Doves will first participate in the Zonal qualifiers scheduled to take place in Kenya from July 17 to 1 August to determine the CECAFA region representatives. Godfrey Nsigwire, the head of communications at Lady Doves who doubles as the team manager has revealed to Spice FM that the COVID-19 restrictions have affected their preparation plans.
According to Nsigwire, they had lined up over seven friendly games to test the fitness of their players before their travel to the qualifiers in Kenya. He, however, says that they cannot play the games under the prevailing circumstances.
Nsigwire said that the team has pitched camp Nateete Kampala where they are involved in indoor training in two shifts. He says that they tested the players for COVID-19 before entering the camp.
