Radio stations in Greater Hoima have missed out on the list of media houses so far selected to implement on-air teaching program during the second closure of learning institutions over the COVID-19 pandemic.
Johnson Kusiima Baingana, the Hoima City Principal Education Officer says he is dismayed that not even a single radio station from Hoima City and district were selected to broadcast the on-air teaching program yet there are many children who need to continue learning while at home.
He explains that only Radio Kitara in Masindi district and Kibaale Kagadi Community Radio (KKCR) in Kagadi district were selected in the entire region.
However, Baingana says education officials in Hoima are lobbying the ministry of education to reconsider at least one radio in the district.
Residents of Hoima and Kikuube districts rely on Hoima City based radio stations for information. The radio stations include a Catholic religious based Radio Maria Uganda, while the commercial stations include Liberty Broadcasting services (LBS), Radio Hoima and Spice FM.
If the on-air teaching programs are not expanded, it means children from Hoima, Kikuube, Buliisa districts will not benefit.
