A 38-year-old man has lost his life in Kakumiro district in a boundary dispute. The deceased is Yosefi Byaruhanga, a resident of Karama village in Rutooma parish in Nkooko Sub County in Kakumiro district.
One of the residents only identified as Kosoole 59, allegedly assaulted Byaruhanga severally on the head with a hand hoe on Sunday following a misunderstanding on the boundary. It is alleged that Byaruhanga approached Kasoole to discuss how they can peacefully open the boundary when he attacked him together with his family members.
Byaruhanga breathed his last on the way to Kakumiro health center IV.  The deceased’s son, Makanika Tumusiime, says that the brutal killing of his father has shocked the family because he sought to resolve the boundary dispute amicably.
Sarah Katushabe, one of the neighbours who rushed when Byaruhanga sounded an alarm wondered why Kasoole and his family members decided to end his life on an issue that could have been resolved peacefully.
Emmanuel Kamuhanda, the area LC 1 Chairperson, says that the deceased and prime suspect have been feuding over the boundary of their land for a long time. He says that angry residents decided to avenge Byaruhanga’s death by demolishing two houses belonging to Kasoole.
Charles Tumusiime, the Officer in charge of operations at Kakumiro central police station, says that Kasoole, his wife and son are in custody at Kakumiro Central police station as investigations into the matter are ongoing.
