The Hoima District Health Officer has expressed worry over the increased community Covid-19 infections in the district.
The number of infections has almost doubled in less than a week with the current figures standing at 722 infections from 461 cases as of Monday this week.
Dr Lawrence Tumusiime, the Hoima district Health Officer attributes the surge in cases to laxity by community members in abiding by the ministry of health standard operating procedures.
He however says the number of people who are turning for covid19 testing and reporting of contacts has drastically increased.
Tumusiime says only those with signs, symptoms and contacts of covid9 patients are tested at health centres namely Hoima Regional Hospital and Kigorobya Health centre. He says others are tested during outreaches by the District Surveillance team while those without signs and symptoms are turned down due to limited kits.
Statistics from the district indicate that 22 lives have so far been lost due to the pandemic cumulatively with15 succumbing to the disease during the second wave.
477 patients are being treated under the Home Care Based Management while 30 patients are admitted at Hoima Regional hospital Covid19 Treatment Unit of which 24 are in critical condition on oxygen.
