Women Leaders in Hoima District have expressed concern over continued oppression of their rights by the district leadership.

They claim the district accounting officer has not respected their right to assemble and mark the International Women’s Day, a month after the official celebrations took place on 5th March.

Margate Ruhigwa, the Hoima District Women council chairperson observes that the district women leaders have been organizing the hold the district Women’s day Celebration on Thursday 15th April, 2021, in Kyabigambire only to be told that there are no funds.

According to her, the district always supports the day with Sh1 to 2million saying they had this time requested for at least Sh1 million to hire a band but this has not been respected.

According to her, this partly explains why women remain marginalized at all levels because they are not always taken as a priority in budgeting.

Grace Agonza, the chairperson for Women in Buhanika sub-county however challenges the district Chief Administrative Officer to urgently address their concern to have their day Marked.

She says the day is used to mobilize women to participate in government projects and other opportunities, share problems among others.
