Kiryatete East cell leadership in Hoima Oil city today on Tuesday mounted an operation in bars and apprehended three underage girls working as bar maids.

The search was led by Godfrey Tumusiime Bantebya, the village chairman together with the area defense secretary.

Majority of the minors fled their working places after learning about the operation.

Speaking to Spice FM, Tumusiime expressed concern over the increasing minors being employed as bar maids in Kiryatete during this Covid-19 period.

He says although the Covid-19 pandemic has affected many families’ incomes hence forcing some to recruit their children for works for their survival; it’s now time for them to return to their parents and prepare to report back to school.

According to him, the operation is aimed at ensuring that every school going age child is out of bars, restaurants, lodges among others in Kiryatete and cautioned that even their bosses will be arrested.

The minors were handed over to Hoima Family and Child Protection police unity for their custody.

Recently, over ten minors were arrested and handed over to Hoima police.

According to school re-opening guidelines, S.1 students will report on 12th April while senior three report back 31st May
