The Kikuube Resident District Commissioner Amlan Tumusime has this intervened into the conflict between the Church of Uganda and the community over Kaabira primary school land in Kabwoya sub county.
The conflict between the two parties started after the Kaabira COU under Bunyoro Kitara diocese started surveying the land that allegedly belongs to Kaabira community school in Kabira village in Kabwoya as they processed the land title for the church.
The elders who started the school in the 1980’s say the school was established on community land after one Irene Katusabe offered residents land to start up the school.
They are accusing the church of illegally claiming the land that measure three acres.
However, the land owner Katusabe has refuted the allegations saying she offered the land to the church and not the school.
Francis Mukoto, the Kabwoya sub-county chairperson says Katusabe might have been influenced by the church to make such remarks since available documents indicate that the land was donated to the community to set up a school.
Rev Innocent Tumuhairwe who represented the COU says the land belongs to the church adding that the process of acquiring the title is on. However, he says that church has no intention of taking away the schools.
However, RDC Tumusime called on the community to remain calm and promised to petition the Hoima district land board to halt the land title process.
