Heads of schools in Hoima City uncertain whether they will be able to enforce the Standard Operating Procedures and guidelines as they receive non-candidate learners.
Several head teachers Spice FM spoke to say they don’t have enough furniture to enforce the recommended social distance and teachers to attend to the learners. The updated SOPs require all schools to ensure a two-meter social distancing at all times within the school environment. In addition to this, schools have to provide several handwashing points and ensure that learners wear facial masks at all times.
On Monday, semi candidates in primary six, senior five and three reported back to school.
Albert Edwoku, the head teacher of St Jude Nursery and primary schools says 80% of the primary six pupils turned up adding that the only challenging SOP is social distancing both in class, dormitory and outside.
Job Tashobya, the school head teacher of Albert secondary school wants government to support private schools financially and to relax the restrictions.
Harriet Karungi Basemera the head teacher Hoima Public primary school says, the school has been facing a challenge of space but the Indian association of Uganda supported them with two tents where children will be studying from.
