A group of Special Police Constables-SPCs who were deployed to provide security during the presidential and Local Council V elections in Hoima City and Hoima district have gone on strike protesting the delayed payment of their allowances.
The over 2,100 SPCs stormed the Hoima City Electoral Commission offices in Kijungu, Hoima City demanding for the payment of their allowances. According to the aggrieved SPCs, each was meant to be paid 80,000 as allowance and Sh20,000 for transport.
The SPCs manned the presidential and LCV elections held on the 14th and 20th January respectively.
The SPCs have told Spice FM that they were directed by the EC to provide security during the elections, but when they went there to demand their money, EC officials told them that the money had been given to their bosses in security.
When contacted, the Hoima District Police Commander, Micheal Ongica sad that they haven’t received the money from the EC. He however hastens to add that they will pic the money from EC this morning at 9am and pay the SPCs.
